Poems For a Baby Funeral
By Carole Galassi
The grief expressed and felt at the death of a child is
like no other grief or feeling in the world. A child or
baby dying is against nature and can be very tragic for
the new parents. We always believe children are supposed
to outlive their parents because that is just the way we
often see death. So, when it happens and a baby or child
has died you feel as though the world should stop
spinning on its axis. It is almost impossible to express
these feelings of sadness.
One way to express how you feel is through poetry.
People have been expressing their feelings through
poetry for thousands of years. Consider including some
special funeral poems specifically geared towards a baby
or infant. The themes may center around angels or a
sweet and precious memory. You might want to look
through a few poetry books from the library or search
for good examples of poems specifically themed around
babies. If you are having a memorial service and using a
funeral home, they may also be able to assist you.
Finding the right words to express you sense of loss is
really hard but that is a big part of funeral poetry.
The may have felt similar feelings to what you are
experiencing now and used the medium of poetry to
express himself. So go ahead and read some poetry and
you will more than likely find your feelings expressed
somewhere in its content. If you are unable to do this
task because of your grief, remember that you have
family and friends who would be able to help you.
