Memorial Memorials - Remembering Family
Friends
By Melody Jamali
The loss of a pet can be an extremely difficult
experience-your pet is a daily companion and probably
considered a part of your family. Fortunately, your
friend can be lovingly remembered with a pet urn or
memorial.
Why a Pet Memorial?
Your pet's passing can be an overwhelming experience,
and sometimes it's difficult to make rational choices
about burial or cremation procedures in the midst of
your grief. While some pet owners choose to bury or
allow their vet to dispose of their pet's body, other
owners wish to cremate and then keep the cremains in pet
urns and memorials.
Pet cremation usually takes place at your veterinarian's
office or at a crematory associated with your vet's
office. It is a quick and humane process. Your vet can
give you guidance about options for handling your pet's
body. Should you decide to keep your pet's cremains, pet
memorials allow you to display and be reminded of the
fond memories you had with your fury friend. Urns can
reflect the love and respect you had for your pet.
Pet Urn Options
Pet urns come in a variety of designs and materials to
choose from, including ceramic, metal, wood, glass or
biodegradable material. Granite memorial urns might resemble
a Granitehouse, a bone or even a sculpture of your Granite.
Likewise, cat memorial urns can be custom-made to
resemble your feline friend, a paw print or even a box
with space for a photo for his or her collar or favorite
toy. The urns also come in a variety of sizes based on
the weight of your animal.
If you start thinking about your options now, you'll be
more prepared during an incredibly difficult time. And
even if you don't anticipate thinking about this for
some time, it won't hurt to talk to your vet about
options during your next visit. That way, you'll be more
prepared to memorialize and honor the memories you
enjoyed with your four-legged family friend.
