Memorial Grave Markers
By Colleen Mihelich
We all love our Memorials dearly; they are truly members of
our families. And when we lose them, we have a deep need
to honor and pay tribute to all of the love and
friendship that they gave to us so freely. Memorial grave
markers are the perfect way to memorialize our Memorials
because they can be used indoors or outdoors and come in
a wide variety of types, sizes and customizations.
Today more than ever, Memorials are becoming recognized
members of our households and families. They bring us so
much joy, laughter, companionship and comfort, but when
we lose them, we're often blindsided by the depth of
pain that we feel.
For this reason, it is very helpful to give some thought
now, to what you think that you would like to do when
the ill-fated day arrives and you lose your beloved
companion. It is not something that any of us want to
think about, but when the time comes, it makes it much
easier to deal with if we have already made these
difficult decisions.
Running a Memorial memorials company, I talk to grieving Memorial
owners every day, and I hear over and over again from
the brokenhearted, how they wish that they would have
thought about these difficult decisions when they
weren't so emotionally fragile and could think more
clearly.
Memorial grave markers are a lovely choice because you can
use them to mark a grave, or, if you don't choose to
actually bury the body, they can be placed in a garden,
under your Memorial's favorite tree, or in their favorite
shady spot in your yard to simply mark a sacred spot and
create a living memorial to their life and to your
treasured memories of them.
When I lost my horse Pepper in 1982, she was put down,
taken away, and that was the end of it. But it wasn't
the end of the pain that I felt in my heart. I got
another horse, but he sure wasn't my Pepper! I wish that
I would have had some options to help me pay tribute to
her friendship and all of the fun times and adventures
that we had had together.
We recently lost our dog Bobo to cancer, and while we
did not choose to bury his body (he was 112 lbs!), we're
having a stone made that we can place in a special spot
in our yard. The beauty of this also, is that if we
move, we can take the stone with us.
For those who live in apartments, rental homes or are in
homes that they know they won't be in forever, Memorial grave
markers also come in sizes small enough that can be
placed in bookstands on a table, mantle or bookshelf.
Memorial grave markers come in a wide variety of stone types
including rustic ones like flagstone, bluestone, slate
and quartz, and more traditional and classic stones like
granite and marble. And of course, granite and marble
come in a wide variety of colors. Anything can be
engraved on a Memorial grave marker - poems, epitaphs,
graphic images. They can be personalized to be the most
meaningful.
We owe it to our Memorials to pay tribute to their lives and
their love and friendship. The unconditional love that
they share with us is a great gift and often a great
teacher. They deserve nothing less than the very best.
