What Do You Want on Your Tombstone?
By Pascasio JR Felisilda
Remember that pizza commercial where they asked, "What
do you want on your Tombstone?". Well, they were talking
about a particular brand of pizza- not your actual
tombstone. But, for some reason, that question is very
poignant and though-provoking. Have you ever thought
what you want on your tombstone? Actually, your name,
date of birth, a dash, date of death, and some other
kind words such as "loving father", "loving wife", and
other lingering adjectives and nouns. Have you ever saw
someone's weight on their tombstone? Weight is one of
those characteristics that are part of that small dash.
That small dash is the entire duration of your life
starting from your birth until your death. Now, if you
are like the most of us, we do not want to think much of
the last date. Also, we do not have much control of that
beginning date (e.g. your birth date). But, we have
tremendous control of that dash. Your weight and
physical fitness level is part of that dash.
Just like any number, weight does not make you a better
or bad person. It does not show that you were loving,
friendly, selfish, or any other adjective. It is a
quantitative characteristic of you- not necessarily a
qualitative characteristic. But, it is highly probable
that you will enjoy a higher quality of physical fitness
when you have control of that number called weight.
During the course of your life, your weight will
fluctuate up and down. As you get older, you want less
fluctuations and more stability. You want your weight to
be an ideal level for your age and height. Overweight is
strongly associated with many health challenges such as
high blood pressure, heart ailments, etc. You can
possibly alleviate many of those health challenges by
controlling your weight.
You will have a better quality of life.
You will enjoy exercise and fitness.
You will have a better dash on your tombstone.
So, what kind of quality of life do you want on your
tombstone? How do you want your physical fitness level
to be (e.g. weight)? You want to enjoy the quality of
your life for as long as you could. Your physical
fitness is a part (an important one) of your whole life.
You can control many aspects to make your physical
fitness level to be of higher quality. This will give
your dash on your tombstone a higher chance of a better
and longer quality of life. |
