Funeral Obituary Program
By Titus Gerard
A funeral program template can literally save you
hundreds of dollars and save you precious time during
the days of bereavement. Why spend hundreds of dollars
for poor quality designs when the best designed funeral
programs are on the net. And, funeral templates designed
in Microsoft Publisher makes it so easy to edit and
customize for your love one.
First, let's examine the overall layout of the funeral
program. There should be a place holder for inputting
text and pictures. When inputting text just click inside
the box and type, it's that easy. When you click inside
the text box using your mouse pointer the current box
will become highlighted with a thicker gray line around
the text box you selected. Microsoft Publisher will
allow you to bold, italicize, underline and recolor text
to match the layout for the funeral service.
Next, you may want to add pictures to the obituary
funeral program. Just click Insert > from the command
menu, then click Picture > From File > and navigate to
where you save your scanned photo. It is best practice
to scan all photos for printing at 300 dpi and save it
as a tiff file. Some people save their scanned photos as
a JPEG image to make a smaller file; however, jpegs are
used primarily for displaying images on the internet and
NOT for printing.
If the program is going to have an official obituary
then you should type the obituary in a word processor
like Microsoft Word. The use of Microsoft Word should be
limited to typing the obituary at most. It is a word
processor that is designed to help catch spelling and
grammar errors on the fly. Spelling errors will be
underlined in red squiggly lines and grammar errors will
have a green line just beneath the area that needs your
attention. According to the Microsoft.com, Word is a
word processor and should not be used for printing full
color graphics unless it is business graphs or
illustrations. Word does not have the color tables and
cannot separate colors for print shops the way Microsoft
Publisher does.
Lastly, if you've planned a funeral service for the
departed, using leader dots generally is the way to go.
Leader dots are small dots that guide the reader's eyes
from one side of the paper to the other. Since most
printing is done on blank paper having the small dots
can be very helpful in aligning two columns of
information. A good funeral program template will
program leader dots that work simply by pressing the tab
key.
Funeral program templates can save you time and money
during the bereavement hours. There are many things to
do during this time and learning a new software program
should not be one of them.
