Thoughtful Memorial Ideas For a
Funeral
By Jason Gibson Parsons
The first thing a friend of the family thinks of at a
time of need is to bring food. When the loved one is
suffering, the family is in panic mode and may forget
their personal needs. Bring them water, coffee or soda
and a snack. That snack may be donuts or sweetbread.
They are going to need a full meal during the wake.
Thoughtful ideas for a funeral food would include a
casserole. Some people make nice rice dishes. You can
order out if you don't have time to cook. The spouse
plays host to funeral party. Mourning doesn't really
start until the crowd goes home. It would be thoughtful
of you to bring or send a pizza afterward.
A wake and funeral can be dreary with no music.
Sometimes no one remembers beforehand. Download a few of
the deceased's favorite dance songs or favorite tunes.
Hire musicians for the funeral. Maybe they liked jazz
music or mariachis. Donate some acoustic guitars to your
school of choice. Ask the school principal for
directions. If the family enjoyed gospel music or church
hymns, donate a piano or organ to the church in his or
her name. Ask the pastor or music minister for
information regarding their greatest needs.
A tree is a living memorial. Plant one in his or her
name. This type of memorial is well suited for a person
who was green spirited while on earth. It can be the
person's favorite nut or fruit. A nice shade tree is
also a good choice. The tree can be planted on their
favorite walkway in a park. It can be placed on the
grounds of their alma mater or oat their place of
worship. Get permission from the proper administrator
before making your final selection. For less space, you
can choose another perennial plant such as a lilac bush.
It is always thoughtful to remember what the deceased
person was concerned for during life. You could offer a
scholarship fund for the children who are still in
school. You could offer a scholarship for needy students
majoring in the same field of study of the deceased one.
Scholarship funds are well established.
