Memorial Renovations
By Tom Sangers
Often the deceased will have chosen what memorial to
have prior to their death, sometimes it falls on their
loved ones to decide, but once in place it will always
be the responsibility of the deceased's nearest and
dearest to maintain.
There are many different types of memorial to choose,
from the material used to the style, size and
inscription. Each memorial should be unique enough to
reflect the person and as it will be placed above the
grave it should be the highest quality to endure the
varying weather that prevails across the UK.
The two most common materials used for memorials are
Granite and Marble. Whilst granite remains, in some
instances, up to double the price of Marble it is hard
wearing and almost maintenance free. The main colours in
Granite are red, black, blue and grey and can be
polished to the highest and shiniest spec or finished
matt to stay in keeping with tradition. Once a granite
gravestone is in place it will weather slowly and will
last the test of time. Many people believe this
investment is worthwhile from the outset to save on
possible renovations to the memorial over the years to
come.
The other popular choice for memorials is Marble. Marble
has that classic blue to white colour with blue/grey
veined markings. Marble is distinct and one of the
benefits, unlike Granite, is that it can be carved into
just about anything. The downside to marble is that it
weathers quickly and will become dirty and grimy over
time. The natural pores in the stone soak up all the
dirt and dust and therefore it is important that
periodical cleaning takes place.
It is a good idea to find a reputable firm that can
carry out any renovations and maintenance that will be
required over the years, especially if you opt for a
marble headstone. Maintenance programmes are available
if you pick the right company that will clean the
gravestone 3 times a year and report any problems that
may have occurred between times. From cleaning to
repairing, re-fixing and re-adjusting, by arranging this
with a company that can guarantee the memorial care that
is required will ensure that your mind is kept at ease
and your loved ones memorial is kept as it should be. |
