Do You Know What Music Your Partner
Wants Played at Their Funeral?
By James Andy Price
None of us like talking about our friends and family
dying and even less keen to discuss our own death, but
its a fact that we are all going to one day!
I know from a friend of mine that when her mother died
they didn't have a clue what her wishes were. It is very
sad for those that our left behind to arrange the
funeral, not knowing whether they wanted to be buried or
cremated, the types of flowers lilies or roses, which
hymns or even perhaps their favourite song!
Music is very personal and brings back memories of good
times for most of us, so why dont we have these
conversations when we are still here to have them? Next
time you see your parents or your children take a deep
breath and talk about it, you will be surprised how most
if us are willing to once someone has started the
conversation first.Listening to memorial songs can be so
comforting after losing a loved one. Songs have a great
way to help heal the heart and bring people a sense of
peace. Some of the best funeral songs will bring both
tears of sadness and joy. Funeral songs are often about
saying goodbye, but also remembering the blessing of
having that loved one in their lives
It's helpful to search online and take time to listen to
various funeral songs. When listening to memorial music,
keep in mind that the words should bring both peace and
comfort to those listening. Music is a heart felt way to
help people remember the memories they had and find
closure to the end of a beautiful chapter.
At the time of a death and also during the funeral
ceremony many people find themselves at a loss for
words, they struggle to express their sincere, and often
heartfelt, empathy for the sad occasion, it is at these
times that music can unveil a dimension of meaning and
feeling that words alone cannot create.
If you have not made your funeral arrangements yet there
are various sources of information on the web. Its not
the answer, but its a great place to start! Doing some
research into what you need to put in place can be a
great comfort not only to you, but to your family and
friends.
Starting with considering what music and hymns you would
like played is perhaps a good place to start!
