How to Care For Your Loved Ones
Cemetery Memorial
By Stella Rossa
When your loved one passes away, it is natural to want a
fitting and beautiful memorial. No one can pretend that
death is pleasant. However, death has the ability to
trigger memories which can add a beautiful tone to the
headstones. When you have a gravestone on a grave, then
you need to make sure that it is looked after carefully.
Headstones can be made out of a variety of materials -
bronze, granite, concrete or marble. They are usually
designed so that they stand out in an otherwise stark
graveyard. They are smooth and nicely shaped, designed
to stay and pay tribute forever.
When you are deciding on what material you would like
for your loved ones gravestone, you should keep in mind
that the material needs to be durable enough to survive
all weather conditions. Headstones that are made out of
natural stones will virtually last forever, so it is
wise to make this decision carefully.
You should also bear in mind how clean you need to keep
the material. How often will you be able to visit? Will
you be able to keep the maintenance up to ensure that it
stays clean? You can make up a 50% bleach, 50% water mix
to wash over marble or granite stones. Simply wash your
stones with this material and around 30 minutes later,
rinse it with warm, clean water. You will notice a
massive difference.
Bronze headstones are harder to clean, so you should
bear this in mind when you decide to buy one. Try and
opt into one that has the right metal combination to
give a long lasting finish. The place you buy from
should be able to advise you. You can also buy cleaning
kits for bronze, should you decide to go for this type
of memorial.
The main point in looking after a headstone is ensuring
that it stays generally clean. Free of rust and dirt,
and ensuring that surrounding grass and weeds are not
over grown. If you do not have the time to dedicate to
cleaning, then there are professionals that do this
service. Of course, this will cost you, but it is often
worth it to ensure that your loved ones memorial stays
clean and lasts.
When we set up a memorial for our loved ones, we do not
always think about the on- going maintenance and care of
the headstone that we choose. However, this is an
important factor and should be considered when we are
deciding on what memorial we are buying. |
