Grave Maintenance And Grave Care - 5
Tips On How To Keep Your Family Grave Looking Clean And
Tidy
By Francis G. Murphy
Grave Maintenance in the UK was, once upon a time, taken
care of by the local council but as with so many things
these days if you are looking to the government to take
care of any sort of grave services then you are sure to
be disappointed.
Many people feel at a loss as to know what to do with a
grave that has been neglected over the years and this
article will give you some help and guidance as to how
you can solve that problem.
As a result of population migration and the fact that
people are now living much longer than they used to,
trying to carry out any sort of grave care services for
the final resting place of a loved one can be almost
impossible. Families, especially large ones are no
longer confined to the same continent let alone the same
city or town so when funerals take place it is usually
left to those who stayed closest to the nest to care for
the family grave. This is all well and good with
families who have a few generations living close by but
impossible and somewhat unfair if it's down to just one
or two people.
There are solutions to this dilemma and here are five
tips which will help you to deal with them.
1) Keep your family grave simple. You only have to walk
around your local cemetery to see that many years ago
headstones and memorials were much larger and more
grand. This was done in the main so that the families
could show how wealthy they were especially in
comparison to those graves around them. These days many
graveyards limit the space you can have and are very
specific about the size of headstone that you can
choose. By keeping it simple it will be easy for any
grave tending services company to keep it clean and
tidy.
2) Choosing Granite over marble is generally recommended
as it is a much more durable stone and therefore less
likely to wear away. If you look at any number of old
marble headstones that were originally supplied with
lead filled letters you will see how the stone has worn
away and left the lead exposed. This will eventually
result in the lead falling out completely and having
them replaced is very expensive.
3) Try not to select vases that are not an integral part
of the headstone. unsecured vases and pots will
inevitably be blown over or knocked down by birds or the
local wild life. By choosing a headstone that has one or
two integral pots you can be sure that the grave will
not be littered with old flowers and perhaps broken
glass.
4) The type of ground cover you choose can have a big
effect on how much grave care will be required over the
years. Grass or flowerbeds require a considerable amount
of work annually whereas stone or slate chippings can
look very smart and need little attention.
5) Seriously consider using a professional grave
maintenance company to carry out your grave tending
requirements. A good company will advise you on the most
economic approach to keeping your plot clean and tidy.
They will also offer a range of other services that will
give you peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that the
final resting place of your loved ones is as you would
like it. It also means that all the family can make a
financial contribution to the costs rather than it being
left to one individual. |
