The Solar Jewish Memorial Candle - A
Redundant Product Or a Revolution?

While the traditional memorial candle is the regular wax
candle that we've all known for years, this candle is
not made of wax. New technology enabled the creation of
this candle, which burns solely on solar energy - energy
that comes from the sun. Not only does it use the sun's
energy to burn, but it also stores some of the energy in
order to light at night and on bad weather as well. This
way, this candle simply burns all the time, day and
night, on sunny, cloudy and even rainy days, it doesn't
burn out. Thanks to the bands which separate the
interior of the candle from whatever is outside, and
practically isolated it, the candle is completely
weather proof. Furthermore, this candle keeps on
lighting for a period of four years straight.
The candle is actually very simple to install. It comes
with a metal plate, where you can add an inscription.
This plate can be attached to the candle itself. The
candle also comes with a strong double-sided adhesive
tape, especially suited for marble, making it as easy as
possible to place the candle on the gravestone of your
loved one and have it light their stone all year long.
The candle itself has a special flickering light effect
made especially in order to create an atmosphere that
resembles that of a classic wax candle.
This all sounds nice, but the important question that
comes to mind is - Is this candle Kosher? Well, since
this product has gotten so popular lately there might
already be quite a few manufacturers out there. From
what I checked, these candles should be Kosher and
should have Halakhich approval. However, it is important
that you make sure that the specific memorial candle you
are intreseted in does in fact have such an approval. I
believe it will probably be just fine, as it turns out
that these candles are already placed in many tombstones
in Israel and around the world, some of them tombstones
of great Rabbis.
