Having an Affordable Funeral
By W Tsang
Death of a loved one is always a sad and depressing
occurrence. Naturally it is never a merry idea when
somebody dear to you passes away. Additionally, what
probably adds to the burden one feels about death is the
cost of the funeral that automatically follows death.
Funerals generally cost a lot of money and in fact are
considered one of the most expensive consumer purchases.
Money is definitely of importance in any funeral
services. Though some people lavishly spend on a loved
one's memorial service, many people are practical enough
to choose an affordable way in saying farewell to a
departed family member without making a large pile of
debt afterwards.
Choosing an affordable funeral does not mean that you
are being disrespectful to the dead person. As a matter
of fact, expensive or not, these funeral services are
all meant to give an honorable and decent memorial for
the departed.
There are several options to choose from when an
affordable funeral is considered, for instance the
location where the funeral or wake is to be held. A
traditional venue for viewing the dead is in funeral
homes, yet if you want to save some cash, you can choose
the wake to be held in your home. You may also ask from
your church if you can use an area of the chapel and
place the casket there to be viewed by friends and
relatives. Interestingly, some known dead individuals
(although they are not among those who want some
affordable funerals but we may get ideas from them as
well) have their wakes in gymnasiums, parks and public
halls. The same way, an affordable wake venue may be
held in the same public places including parks, forests,
by the lakes, etc.
Funeral homes also nowadays offer different packages
from which customers can choose one that will suit the
deceased family's preference and budget. You can go and
choose an expensive package with all the extra and
distinct services from the funeral homes. There are
packages which are most affordable that even though the
most basic services are included, it still can suffice
to honor the dearly departed.
If possible, you may already search in advance and
canvass for the funeral prices offered by funeral homes
so as early as possible you can get the lowest quotes to
choose when a friend or family member dies. You may also
ask help from someone you know who can help you
negotiate with the funeral home management and get some
valuable discounts. It would be an additional advantage
if you know an owner or anyone related to the owner of
the funeral home so you can get a fair deal. Remember to
ask all the services included in what you are offered so
you know exactly what you will be paying for.
Do not be persuaded by some people in getting some
expensive memorial services. This is just a normal and
expected tactic by business establishments like funeral
homes so they can gain serious profits.
